i've spent about 5 days (plus one extended day stay), so 6 days in japan.. it was really an eye-opener for me since i'd only seen japan from the windows of the transiting area of the tokyo-narita airport terminal.. it seems very different from what i thought it would be, though i was a little afraid because riots might start because of the recent japan-china conflict.. that's how paranoid i am.. :p lolz.. okok.. i'll start right from the beginning..

17th June 2005:
i woke up at about 5 plus in the morning on the day of my departure.. and when i just walked out of my room, my mom gave me a big shock that we were going to leave in 30mins time, or five thirty.. i was stunned for a second but when i woke up from my daze.. i ran towards my wardrobe and quickly picked out a shirt and a matching pair of pants because i knew that we had to arrive at least 2 hrs before our plane's departure.. i chose a brown pants and khaki shirt with a white tee underneath, all tucked in (because iwas taking business class, so i had to be properly dressed).. i'd never tried that combination before but it turned out quitre nicely.. :p when i got into the taxi waiting at the road, i suddenly remembered that i forgot to bring my walkman and fed my hamsters plus water my plants.. on the taxi ride to the airport, i murmured a silent prayer that they would still be alive and healthy when i got back.. (they were okay in the end, i thank GOD for that..) at the airport, we checked in our single trolley bag and went into the actual airport terminal.. my brother and i headed into the times/whsmith bookstore to purchase my books that i would read on the plane.. everytime i head overseas especially via airplane, i would always purhase a book from there, irregardless of the length of the plane journey, because its an excuse for me to buy a new book otherwise i would have no other chance as i'm too busy or lazy to visit the local bookstores.. :p from there, i bought 'black rose' by nora roberts and 'kingdom of the golden dragon' by isabel allende, of which both books are very good and are parts of trilogys, i intend to get the other 4 books.. :p on the plane itself, i settled comfortably on my seat settled with my book and my video screen thingy of which i watched 'ocean's twelve' which i missed as i was overseas at the time of its premiere and was too lazy to rent or buy the dvd.. interesting, but i sort of slept halfway during the show but made it up by watching the repeat on the second hour of its show during the 6hr 15min flight.. hate the breakfast..

i reached tokyo-narita airport around 1430 s'pore time, abt 1530 local time.. we decided to be adventurous despite my constant refusal to take the shuttle to our hotel.. i get motion sickness easily on a shuttle/bus when the journey is too long, so i kinda dont like to take these kinds of transport.. but we still took it, and it was horrible.. the bus was very stuffy and is filled with so many people.. i mean, if the scenery nearing to the city was still green and welcoming, i wouldn't be in such a bad attitude but the scenery above the streets (travelling on the rised highway) was grey and dreary and the clouds seemed to hang over the city's buildings as if there was a mourning season, it was terrible.. after a 2 hr++ ride, my queasiness started up as my stomach churned while the bus reached the city's shinjuku terminal station and then the bus turned into the some shinjuku washington hotel and half an hour later, turned a big round back towards the city area and reached my hotel, hilton tokyo, situated in the business district.. i have nothing but praises for the hotel. the minute i stepped off the bus, i was greeted by enthusiastic 'konnichiwa'(s) by some hotel staff.. (i realised that the greetings here are very different then of those japanese restaurants back in singapore but they are more sincere and are said by a pleasant smile and a linking of their eyes with yours.. unlike singapore where the restaurant staff just shout out greetings in jap because of their work and not that there mean it at all.. here, there is a significant difference..) my hotel room had a picturesque view of downtown tokyo and its blinking lights and boasts of 4 queen-sized beds of each member of my family.. this i didn't expect froma family sized room..it even came with a complimentary basket of fresh local fruits that i enjoyed very much due to the fruit freak in me.. and i found out later, after dinner, that they provided traditional kimono(s) of whatever you call the traditional dressing for males in japan.. which was very nice and which i donned it everytime i was in the hotel room.. when i changed into a comfortable pair of jeans, we went out for dinner at a nearby teppanyaki place which was recommended by the hotel itself..

the place, seryna, which i would greatly recommend to everybody heading to japan was really worth its price.. at 20,000 yen per person, or $320 (s'pore dollars) per person was a shock to me because i had never eaten a meal for such an expansive price before.. there, i had my first taste of foie gras or goose liver (the ultimate yumminess which literally melted in my mouth, and gave my new tastes that i had never tasted before), 3 types of local kobe beef (which is the best beef in the world as the beef literally melts in my mouth due to its overwhelming fatty content) and the locally caught live abalone that was cooked in front of your eyes (absolutely oishii when eaten with the restaurant's herb butter).. that was worth $320 for each person but it left a big hole in our pockets.. :p

the night ended with a stroll back to the hotel amidst the cool winds that came from the nearby seas..

18th June 2005:
i woke up to gwen stefani's 'rich girl' in the bright sunlight.. i thought that it was already eleven or twelve plus in the late morning but i found out that it was actually only nine plus at the sun rose early in japan at about 5 plus.. by the time my whole family got ready, it was time for lunch.. we walked all the way to shinjuku terminal station which was the city's main city hub and started to shop at the nearby obakyu shopping mall.. there, my mom bought 2 fila shirts and a jacket, considerably priced lower than that of s'pore.. then we headed down to the food supermart at the basement.. to my surprise, they actually let people try the food before they buy it as they sold mainly cooked food such as bentos, tempura, ramen (or chinese noodle as it is called there), fried stuff like chicken and pork.. what surprised me the most was when one of the sales stuff cooked a bowl of ramen in miso for me to try.. its not like in singapore when those sales people cooked small portions for you to try in tiny fryers or toasters at small stands but in japan, it quite a big thing.. they have designated giant cooking areas to specially cooked the items in front of you.. the layout is somewhat like a food centre singapore.. and the most shocking thing was that the man gave me a whole bowl of ramen that could very well fill a hungry stomach.. my family decided to share a bowl of sample noodles while a few other japanese wolfed down a bowl each.. of this ever happens in singapore, all the cheapskate and kiasu people would just stand round the stall and just continuously eat the noodles of which you can ask for a second helping.. you can also add the sample pickles that lay at the side to flavour your noodles.. another thing is that you are not obliged to buy the fresh noodles that the guy is recommending.. but we did anyway because they were really good..

and this went on for another 2 days at two other shopping malls such as keio plaza..

oh yeah, i also watched the mtv movie awards 2005 there on the local mtv channel too.. quite cool because it wasn't in japanese and i could understand too.. :p

20th June 2005:
ohayo gozaimasu, ueno! we took the convenient train to the small but bustling town of ueno for our next stay in japan.. i stayed at a hot springs hotel there in ueno.. but the place was a little boring because it lacked the shopping malls and glamour and glitz and cityish life of shinjuku.. yes, there were eateries now an there and places that you could shop but.. anyway, all three days there we shopped in the local area of the ueno station and ameyoko street where there were about 500 shops crammed side by side along the street that stretches about 400m.. there sportswear, shoes, fod, fresh seafood, cosmetics were sold.. but i didnt really fancy buying any shoes or clothes beacuse the items sold were exposed to the hot sun and well, didnt really appear well to me of the shopkeepers didnt even bother to pride themselves with their goods..

the hot spring at my hotel were gross.. i only went once though.. before settling myself into the hot water, i thoroughly bathed myself in the nearby shower and went to the bath clad in a towel.. to my ultimate horror, other old men came in butt-naked without cleansing themselves in the first place.. how guh-ross.. immediately left the place after showering and bathed about three times after i reached my room.. yucks..

my room was a traditional room where tatami mats were laid on the floor.. according to the traditional guidelines, the room was priced by the number of tatami mats laid on the floor.. and of course at night, while you were away in the evening, the hotel staff would arrange comfortable mattresses on the floor for you bed.. and that came with really warm and fluffy blankets that would send anyone into a deep sleep.. :p
___________________________________________________________________

i bought very little stuff though
- 2 nike tees
- a adidas pullover
- lots of different flavoured pocky sticks (made there so of course must try)
- a little bottle of harimo (the famous little plants balls that look like balls of yarn that are harvested in some lake)
- lots of tidbits that are locally made and are really yummy..

some things i realised there:

the fashion there in japan is really different from that of singapore.. firstly, singapore is very brand-concious of what we wear, we need to have brands labelled on our clothes to consider oursleves fashionable.. however in japan, it is totally different because fashion in japan is not influenced by anywhere but made locally.. the japanese trend is that brandless = fashion.. many of the clothes that fashionable people wear are brandless and it is all up to the individual.. there is a sense of freedom and no one is ever a fashion disaster because everyone is respected for their own sense of style..

the service is a million times better than singapore.. when you meet owners or sales staff of their shop, they would always greet you with a 'konnichowa' or a 'ohayo gozaimasu' or something i cant seem to comprehend, be it a high class hotel or a simple small eatery or shop you see on the roads.. and they do it with sincerity, unlike those in shenzhen or singapore who dont usually mean it but do it for the sake of work.. i dunno but hey, i'm generalizing..

okok, i've to go already.. hands tired after this long entry.. i can write somemore but my brain is a little wootzy and tired from the long flight back.. i'll try to add more soon..

byebye..

well.. i am finally going for my holiday tomorrow morning.. i heading towards tokyo tomorrow for a five-day holiday.. i have finally some time off to head overseas.. i'm really looking forward to it.. it just seems different this time.. unlike the past few times where i dont really feel very excited and seem very lethargic about going.. i am actually looking forward to it.. well, i guess that its just this week of school.. its good and its bad.. i dunno.. i just feel a little lost and disorientated.. i have so many pending decisions and i want to just solve them all but.. haiz.. i just really dunno.. somehow, i just started my sleepful night just last night.. its kinda late for me because i would usually start it at the beginning of the holidays.. these past few weeks have been really horrid, i would always wake up in the middle of the night and would have a dreamless night then on.. i finally had a sleepful night for which i didnt wake up in the middle of the night but i had to wake up early to attend the history lecture.. grr.. i'm just so physically and emotionally tired..

i am very surprised at how someone people can be.. he can act in so many ways in front of different way.. what a feat.. even I cannot do such a difficult task.. at lessons, that person tries to look so fragile and gaunt when we look at him.. seemingly that he hasn't eaten for 2 weeks and is so weak that even the slightest breeze would blow him away.. but then i found out today that he has gone back to his old ways.. ling2 shi2 bao4 fuo2 jiao3.. even during the physics paper, i thought he would do everything himself but in the end, when someone offered him answers because he was the last one who haven't finish on the table, he drank it up like a thirsty buffalo.. c'mon lor, you're sec 4 already and you're still.. somehow, it doesn't surprise me. it was then i heard that he was going out to lan.. ohz.. following the ways of your new friends.. not surprised..

guh-ross..

today's not a very good day.. the only thing i am looking forward is a good sleep and a cold glass of OJ..

anyway, if you wish to request for any souvenirs, just drop me a request.. i'll try my best.. so far i've got zlata and mrinnocents' one.. :p

bye.. see ya all on the 22nd..

XOXO

i finally found time off to blog..

saturday was my grandma's birthday, the whole family gathered at my da uncle's to have a barbeque.. it was really fun.. though i didnt cook much, i certainly ate up alot of food.. :p my third aunt went with another aunt to the swiss butchery and spent the whole morning there, coming back with loads of marinated meat.. korean syle beef, chicken and prok kebabs, beef roast, chicken wings, lamb chops, a whole salmon and fresh pork and beef sausages.. it was such a spread.. yummy.. my family bought satay from bukit merah with a yummy pineapple and nut sauce, another aunt brought homemade potato salad, fresh italian garden salad and yoghurt for the various meats.. another aunt brought ba kwa to be grilled on the bbq and my grandma prepared chilli squid and the salmon with lemon and rosemary.. i was totally filled.. everything was absolutely yummy.. after that, we went back inside the house for fresh US giant strawberries and dessert wine.. of course my cousins and i took a glass each, anyway dessert wine is much sweeter and not as dry though the alcohol content is slighty higher.. the grapes that made it were from Lebanon and were left on the vines longer to induce its maximum sweetness.. we also tried a red wine but found it to be slightly spoiled because it smelt like old carpets and was a tad sour (vinegar).. we threw it away soon after.. :p after the wine, my grandma tend blew out the candles on a 'lana' cake.. its that famous chocolate fudge cake but it just didnt seem nice like the other time i tried it.. but i guess its ok because its not machine made and each homemade.. it costs about $73.00 per 1kg (in case any of you want to buy one for urself) and apparently the old woman who makes it keeps her recipe secret still by locking herself in a room and making the batter.. lolz, what a fuddy-duddy.. :p

i'm just sick and tired of the many lessons that i have during the holidays.. urgh.. so sick and tired.. i just wanna just take the week off and wake up late and just laze around without tuition, homework and lessons.. geez... so guh-ross.. the lousy show are the worst.. i have absolutely NOTHING to watch on telly.. i've finished 'desperate housewives' and lent them to my aunt and there's nothing else on television.. and mixedjuice is still supposed to help me burn 'america's next top model' season3.. otherwise there's nothing to watch..

haiz.. so tired.. (who wants to watch 'batman begins'?)

haiz, i think that i'm REALLY going crazy and out of my mind.. i actually find myself in a current faze of jogging while i'm still half-asleep.. i actually wake up at around 0630 to just go to bishan park to jog.. urgh, but i dont really feel anything because i'm still half asleep.. lolz :p when i'm jogging around the park, the only people i see are old or middle aged fattys who are trying to work out their fats.. :p well, they should have known better than to gorge themselves.. wait, that applies to me too.. lolz.. i'm really going crazy..

i'm actually watching daytime tv and i just learnt how to make 'panna cotta' and 'blueberry con creme'.. either i'm very bored or i'm really going crazy..

yesterday's emaths paper was actually quite manageble compared to the o'level '02 paper that i did the previous day.. i dunno, but it seemed to remind me of primary school mathematics.. guess everyone will do well in the paper.. luckily i finished eary because i had a piano lesson at 1500 so i checked the paper once through and shoved it at PE.. (hate her, i think she hates me) luckily i managed to get home in the matter of 5 mins and got on my piano lesson on time.. :)

speaking about my piano lesson, my piano teacher told me that one of her students was a sngs gal from the respective choir.. apparently, sngs choir and our choir is supposed to have a choral convention on the 16th of this month.. hmm, interesting that NONE of us actually know what she is talking about.. besides that, a few sec4s are involoved in the convention.. and she complained that a certain sec4s (from our choir) from a group have REALLY bad attitutes and to quote her words, they were: 'idiotic' 'stuck-up' 'lazy' 'no sense of working in a group' 'causing the sngs girls to work by themselves'.. hmm, reminds me of certain people.. (turquoise, i'm sure you share my suspicions) anyway, when my piano teacher comes again next week, i'll find out who they are.. ah huh.. won't that be wonderful.. i'm going to make sure that the whole choir takes notes about their 'good' traits in groupwork..

*evil laughter*

ALWAYS YOUR FRIEND
Sometimes it's hard to write the words
That you, my dear, should see.
Or say the things you should hear,
Or be as i should be.
You grow fast and learn so much
It's hard for me each day,
To say or do just what is best
To help along the way.
Should I be silent or give advice?
Should I answer yes or no?
Should I have control and set many rules,
Or should I simply let you go?
One thing is certain,
I'll make mistakes,
And some will seem hard to mend.
But if nothing else seems clear right now,
Know that you can always count me as your friend..

it has been so fast since the june holidays have started.. i really have to start on my revision and my homework but i guess that a little time to play is absolutely necessary.. :p my latest game is just 'the sims 2' because its the only game that i can find that does not need a whole lot of memory space or the internet but luckily for me, i'm going to get my 1500kps soon.. bye 56k world.. lolz :p but it is still quite fun because i have created an absolutle wonderful 5-storey house complete with all the necessary amenities.. quite fun..

watching two movies last week was an absolute detox for me, it allowed me to finally let go of my stress.. monster-in-law is really funny even though it is only rated 3 stars.. if you are looking for a great movie that would fill you bouts of laughter and a feel-good sensation, its great, watching with zlata, turquoise and salty was a great joy.. a mixture of different levels of laughter, zlata's high-pitched laughter, salty's booming laughter, turquoise's ringing high-pitched laughter that you induce you to laugh even harder.. it was really fun though we found out that JLo is fat and is a fashion disaster.. however, madagascar is not so nice, the graphics are really nice but the plot was a little thin, the idea of throwing such refined and civilised animals into the absolute wild is hilarious but well, i dunno.. its just not my cup of tea and the ending's very abrupt..

well..

THE PAINTBRUSH

i keep my paintbrush with me, wherever i may go,
in case i ever need to cover up, so the real me doesnt show.
i'm so afraid to show you me; afraid of what you'll do,
i'm afraid you'll laugh and say mean things; afraid i might lose you.

i'd like to remove all the layers, to shoe you the real, true me,
but i want you to try to understand; i need you to like what you see.
so if you'll be patient and close your eyes, i'll remove the coats real slow,
please understand how much it hurts, to let the real me show.

now that my coats are all stripped off, i feel naked, bare and cold,
and if you still find me pleasing, you are my friend, pure as gold.

i need to save my paintbrush though, and hold it in my hand,
i need to keep it handy in case someone doesn't understand.

so please protect me, my dear friend, and thanks for loving me true,
and please let me keep my paintbrush with me,

until i love me,

too.

yes, the holidays have come but looking towards the coming 2 full wekks of lessons, i'm kand of dreading it.. this week has been okay other than the fact that the long-awaited chinese o'levels had just passed by on monday.. it was fairly manageble.. the gong1 han2 was supposed to be difficult but i dont really remember anything abt it.. :p i wrote about 4 pages for my essay but i basically wrote it in the format that BY gave us.. but i really dunno how i'll fair in it.. it was my first actual structured bao4 zhang1 that i actually did this year.. lolz.. :p the paper 2 was really unexpected.. i shouldnt have studied so much bcos none of the horrible and difficult words came up.. but i may have mistakes here and there though.. i dont seem to differ much from turquoise's answers thoigh.. hope i can clinch my A1.. really hope so.. :)

yesterday's chinese oral was quite disasterous.. i actually forgot to bring my name and council badge to school.. so i was actually badgeless for the whole day.. lolz.. luckily TCL just warned me with a stern word and a frown.. phew.. english just now was fairly ok.. i did follow BS's tips by reading a little slower and pronounce my words properly.. for my pic description i used some really nice and descriptive(atious) words plus a word that got a shocked sound from AP.. quite interesting.. :p

'monster-in-law' is really funny.. watched it last evening with zlata, turquoise and salty.. its really funny, i didnt expect it to be so hilarious.. pleasantly surprised.. i laughed so hard until i got a horrid headache minutes after the show.. :p thank goodness it has passed.. wanna watch 'madegascar' tomorrow before the choir bbq..

to a certain someone, i talked to you because i didnt want to spoil the mood of others that day, not because i wanted to talk to you.. grudges are kept forever.. i've learnt my lesson and wont forgive so easily anymore.. dont be dumb..

dad left today for bangkok, mom leaving tomorrow for bintan, all on short business trips.. haiz..

i wanna play sims 2!!

horrid 2 weeks before i leave to japan for a last wekk hol..
